Barton tops Northeast men’s soccer on Sunday

NORFOLK, Neb. – Heading into the half down by a goal, the Northeast Community College men’s soccer team hoped to re-gain control of the match, but the Barton Community College Cougars had other plans.

The No. 19th-ranked Cougars tallied six goals in the second period to defeat the Hawks  7-0 in non-conference action on Sunday in Norfolk.

“We did not show up to play,” Head Coach Chad Miller said. “We played a pretty good first half, but our troubles have come in the second half all season long so far. We are extremely technical but don’t want to put in the effort on the tactical side. If we put both of those together we will have a great season. We have to start getting it together as we are heading into the bulk of our conference games.”

Barton out-shot Northeast 23-7. Massimiliano Simonazzi had 12 saves for the Hawks, while Tiago Da Costa, Victor Galterio and Nickolas Gama tallied a shot on goal.

The Hawks hit the road to take on North Iowa Area Community College for an ICCAC match at 4 p.m. Wednesday in Mason City, Iowa.
