After finishing up the regular season this past weekend with games against Kirkwood Community College and Ellsworth Community College, the Northeast softball team shifts its focus to getting prepared for the first round of the NJCAA Region XI-B Division II softball tournament hosted by Des Moines Area Community College in Boone, Iowa. The Hawks ended the regular season 10-45 and 5-23 in region play.

Northeast will face Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC) in game one of the tournament on Friday  April 28, at 2 p.m. “We had a week off to heal our injuries the best we can and go to the region tournament with a headful of steam.” says Hawks head coach Iris Woodhead.  “We face DMACC on Friday, they arguably have the best pitching staff in the conference. So this week we have been spending time working on hitting and getting our timing down for their pitchers that can throw the ball pretty hard.”  Woodhead also says that the intensity of their practices hasn’t changed and that the team will go into the tournament with the same mentality.

Players to look out for throughout the tournament will be upperclassmen  Paige Schmidt ( Osmond, NE)  Leah Grovijohn  (Dodge, NE) and Kelsie Myers ( Broken Bow, NE).  Their leadership and intensity on the field  will ignite their teammates and help them come out with the win.
