ESTHERVILLE, Iowa – A big defensive performance by the Northeast Community College volleyball team (5-5) led the Hawks to an ICCAC victory on Wednesday, defeating Iowa Lakes Community College in three sets in Estherville, Iowa.

 

Set scores were: 25-15, 25-11 and 25-10.

 

The Hawks held the Lakers to under 15 points in each set, while putting up 18 total blocks. Carly Hirsch (Norfolk, Neb.) led Northeast with seven blocks, while Hannah Heppner (Stanton, Neb.) added three and eight kills.

 

Megan Wehrbein (Burchard, Neb.) tallied 11 kills to lead the Northeast offense. Freshman Brianna Bauer (O’Neill, Neb.) had 10 and setter Jamie Bonifas (Blue Hill, Neb.) added 33 assists and 13 digs. Josie Sanger (Crofton, Neb.) notched 16 digs at the libero position.

 

The Hawks welcome conference foe Southeastern Community College for a 7 p.m. match on Wednesday at the Cox Activities Center in Norfolk.
