NORFOLK, Neb. – A last-second 3-pointer from freshman Ben Moxness (Scribner, Neb.) rimmed out at the buzzer, giving Morningside College JV a 57-55 victory over the Northeast Community College men’s basketball team on Monday at the Cox Activities Center in Norfolk.

After taking a seven-point lead heading into halftime, the Hawks’ offense managed just 27 points in the second half. Late in the half, the Mustangs totaled six-straight points that left Northeast (12-12, 1-4 ICCAC) searching for answers. With 2:47 to play, Daniel Akuei (Melbourne, Australia) hit a layup and Moses Byekwaso (London, United Kingdom) made 1-of-2 free throws, but the Hawks’ offense went cold for the remainder of the game.

Byekwaso led the Hawks with 15 points and six rebounds. Akuei chipped in eight points and 10 boards, while Joel Ufele (London, United Kingdom) had six points and 11 rebounds.

The Hawks battle No. 11 Indian Hills Community College at 7 p.m., Wednesday at the Cox Activities Center in Norfolk.
