DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The Northeast Community College women’s soccer team (0-3) were unable to get things going on Saturday and Sunday, dropping a 4-0 match to ASA College Miami and a 6-1 bout against No. 6-ranked Daytona State College in Daytona Beach.

The Silver Storm jumped out to an early 4-0 lead in the first period and kept the Hawks at bay for much of the game. ASA Miami out-shot Northeast 19-8. Lizzy McCalla notched six saves in the loss.

“We started off the game playing well,” Head Coach Chad Miller said. “We were moving the ball around well and getting up the field. As the game went on we started losing the chemistry and our passes and everything were a little off. With 20 new faces on the squad, it is taking us some time to find our identity and build that chemistry. I feel time will get us to where we want to be.”

Against the Falcons, Northeast added a goal late in the second period when Ryanne Lueders (Columbus, Neb.) found the net on an assist by Ellie Gess (Papillion Neb.) to cut Daytona State’s lead to four. But, a goal in the 68th minute sealed the victory for the Falcons.

Alexis Wemhoff tallied eight saves for the Hawks.

“I felt this was our best game so far,” Miller added. “I know you can’t tell by the score, but I felt we moved the ball well, defender better than we have and put together a good attack even though we didn’t get the shots. We had some great opportunities on goal, but didn’t capitalize. Daytona State is a well-balanced team and if you have a weakness they will find it. This was a great experience for the team to play top-10 competition out of our conference.”

The Hawks take on Indian Hills Community College at 2 p.m. Saturday at Norfolk Veteran’s Memorial Field in Norfolk. Live stream will be available at: https://team1sports.com/northeastcc/
