OTTUMWA, IA – Northeast Community College women’s soccer coach Chad Miller summed up his team’s loss to Indian Hills Community College here Saturday simply: “We were caught on our heels from the first whistle.” The Hawks were blanked by the Warriors, 3-0.

Indian Hills is currently ranked 20th in the National Junior College Athletic Association Division I poll.

Fewer than ten minutes into the match, Indian Hills was on the board due to a breakaway and one-versus-one with the Hawks’ goalie. Less than five minutes later, the Warriors did the same on another breakaway, bringing the halftime score to 2-0.

“The second half was a little better,” Miller said. “We were a little more patient on the ball and put together some possession.”

Indian Hills scored their final goal of the game off a shot from a forward.

“I felt this was the first game this season where we didn’t control possession,” Miller said. “A lot of credit goes to Indian Hills, We have to get that possession back, and we have to learn to take advantage of our chances.”

The Warriors outshot the Hawks, ten to 14 and also had more shots on goal, 11 to Northeast’s four. Alexis Wemhoff tallied eight saves for the Hawks.

Northeast (9-3-1) will return to action Wednesday when they host Iowa Lakes Community College at Norfolk’s Veterans Memorial Field at 2 p.m. The men’s game will follow at 4 p.m.
