NORFOLK – The Northeast Community College volleyball team wrapped up the Northeast tournament here Saturday, falling to Scott Community College in the first game and sweeping Marshalltown Community College in the second.

The Hawks defeated Fort Scott in the first set, 25-21, but dropped the remaining sets, 25-23, 25-22 and 25-22. Final scores in the Marshalltown sweep were 25-11, 25-23 and 25-14.

“Overall we had a good weekend,” said Coach Amanda Schultze. “We struggled this morning against Fort Scott, and they played very well against us. They out-hustled us and threw us out of system most of the game.”

“We were able to come back and get the win against Marshalltown this afternoon and finished that game well.”

In the Fort Scott game, Tabitha Kander and Courtni Kunz led Northeast in kills with 11 each, while Kelsey Shoemaker and Macy Stewart had 10 and nine respectively. Kunz finished with three assist blocks, and Kander and Mackenzie Wecker had two ace serves each.

Wecker put up 24 digs along with Courtney Labenz’s 17 and Kander’s 16. Labenze led assists with 39.

The Marshtalltown game saw Stewart recording 10 kills and Shoemaker, nine. Shoemaker had three solo blocks, while Peyton Roach and Labenz put up two ace serves each.

Wecker led in digs with 19, and Kander had 14. Jordan Vogt finished with 21 assists.

Northeast heads to Iowa Falls, IA, on Wednesday, where they will face Ellsworth Community College at 7 p.m.
