STERLING, CO – The Northeast Community College volleyball team went 2-2 at the Northeastern Junior College tournament here over the weekend.

On Friday, the Hawks defeated Trinidad State Junior College in straight sets – 25-15, 25-21, 25-22. Brittany Sullivan led Northeast with 12 kills while Maggie Earney contributed 27 assists.

In the second match of the day, Northeast lost in a five set marathon to North Platte Community College, 25-20, 17-25, 23-25, 25-1, 8-15. Taryn Luedtke registered 14 kills for the Hawks. Meagan Backer had 32 digs and Earney finished with 34 assists.

On Saturday, Northeast took Laramie County Community College to four sets, but came up short, 25-23, 19-25, 18-25, 19-25. Sullivan had 21 kills in the match, Backer had 28 digs and Kiara Lopez had 20 assists.

The Hawks won its final match of the tournament with a four set victory over host Northeastern Junior College, 19-25, 25-19, 25-20, 25-20. Sullivan had 20 kills, 23 digs and two ace serves. Luedtke recorded 13 kills while Backer had 26 digs and Lopez registered 39 assists.

Northeast will hit the road again for its next match against Ellsworth Community College in Iowa Falls, IA. Wednesday’s match begins at 7p.m.
