NORFOLK – Thousands of junior and senior high school students representing close to 90 ensembles from approximately 50 high schools throughout the region will take part in the annual Jazz Festival at Northeast Community College.
Sponsored by Northeast and the Northeast Area Jazz Ensemble (NAJE), the 32nd annual event is a two-day festival set for Monday andTuesday, March 24-25 in the Cox Activities Center on the Northeast campus in Norfolk. The festival begins at 8:25 a.m. both days.
Trophies will be awarded to the top four jazz bands and show/jazz choirs in each of the four levels of competition. Outstanding instrumental soloist and vocal soloists’ trophies will also be presented in each division.
Dr. Linda Boullion, music department chair and director of choral music activities at Northeast, invites everyone to share in the experience. “It makes for a great day of music for our guests.” The festival is free and open to the public.
The Northeast Community College Jazz Festival continues to be one of the few jazz festivals in the Midwest approved by the National Association of Secondary Principals for high school and junior high school participation.
