NORFOLK – Wendi Fox certainly provides a unique perspective when she speaks of her past life as a former “high risk drinker.” Fox, the author of TRASHED: a True Story,” has created an inspirational stand-up comedy alcohol awareness program designed to keep the attention of even the toughest audiences. TRASHED is a combination of hysterical observations, profound questions and life lessons learned.

The Northeast Community College Alcohol and Other Drugs (AOD) Prevention program and Women’s History Month workgroups are bringing Fox to the Norfolk campus for a presentation of TRASHED. It will be held Wednesday, March 19, at 11 a.m. in the Cox Activities Center Theatre.

Fox is a professional stand-up comedian who has been known for many years as the anti-lecture artist. She doesn’t pressure students to stop drinking. Instead she asks the questions that provoke thought and create change in their lives. “Just telling them to stop drinking doesn’t work,” says Fox.  Instead she inspires them to find something in life they love more than getting drunk.

Fox has made a commitment to change the dangerous social climate of high risk drinking through humor, personal development, alcohol awareness, social respect and responsibility. The concept is very simple; it’s comedy with a cause and a comedian on a mission. After all of these years, Fox is still the funniest, most innovative, respected, and requested alcohol aware comedian and lecture artist in North America today.

Fox’s presentation is free and open to the public. Representatives of schools interested in bringing students to Fox’s presentation should contact Maureen Baker, director of student conduct at Northeast, at (402) 844-7258.

The program is made possible through funding provided by the Healthy Communities Initiative (HCI).
