FREMONT – The Northeast Community College women’s basketball team has improved to 17-2 following a road win here Tuesday night against the Midland University JV, 72-57.

Emily Gamble led the Hawks with 16 points while Alison Klostergaard had 12, and Annie Szczepaniak contributed 10.

“We were not real sharp tonight,” said Matt Svehla, Northeast coach. “We missed several shots around the basket and we did not shoot free throws real well.  Midland hit some shots in the second half to keep the game respectable, but we could have defended better.”

Svehla said he would have liked a more balanced effort. “We had a couple of players play well, but we had too many who didn’t get much done.  I’m happy with the win, but we were not as sharp as we could have been.  We need everyone ready to contribute on a nightly basis.”

Other scorers for Northeast included Megan Trinder with nine points, Yasmin Miller, seven, Jamea Coleman, six, Debinique Knowles, five, Lexi Murphy, four, Amelia Allington, two, and Ena Viso, one.

Northeast will be at home for its next game. The Hawks will host North Platte Community College Friday night at the Cox Activities Center on the Norfolk campus. Tip-off is at 5 p.m.
