ST. PETER, MN – Northeast Community College’s young speech squad competed in its first tournament of the fall season. Coach Terry Nelson’s all-freshmen team took part in the recent “Great Minnesota Get Together” at Gustavus Adolphus College here.
Jose Lose, Kansas City, MO, and Dakota Vlotho, Rock Valley, IA, placed second in duo interpretation, and took a top novice award. Jordan Sager, Norfolk and Joe Lose were third in duo interpretation. Ben Temple, Norfolk, received a top novice award in impromptu speaking. Drew Sempek, Stromsburg, also competed in the tournament.
Nelson said Larry Schnoor, National Forensics Association president and AFA-NIET tournament director, shared kind words toward the Northeast team at the tournament. He said he saw great potential in Northeast Community College’s competitors.
“What a dynamite group of freshmen who competed in their first tournament of the season,” Nelson said.
