As the old saying goes “time waits for no man.” But in this case it waits for a women or so as it seems.
With the recent passing of Whitney Houston it slowed and almost came to a stop as multiple news stations dedicated their time to shelling out information of her life including her drug abuse; on Facebook it was a much different story.
Multiple pictures of American soldiers who had died and didn’t get as much attention as Houston. There’s a time and place to remember the ones who were lost no matter the cause.
People have been saying that she overdosed and doesn’t deserve the attention she had received. She was battling addiction which is a war that is never won and that the urge to use again is stronger than human will.
She inspired others through her music creating , shaping, and forming some of the artists we listen to today. She may not have died for our freedom but she’s a hero to some none the less.
Now American soldiers receive their time in the spotlight and I may have to agree that they never do receive their share of fame to the public. But among our protectors their names live on forever and with their brothers in arms, the things that they have done for our country can never be taken from them.
To further this statement, Marine Aaron Miles, who had fought for our country once told me “once a marine always a marine.”
So for this call to arms to say think about what you say before you do it. As a college journalist this is usually hard and hypocritical for me to say. But like I said just because they didn’t die for our country and died to drugs doesn’t make them less of a person.
Experiencing 2nd hand as I watched someone very dear to me battle drug addiction twice and continue to use after I was gone until she realized that and decided to stop. Drug addiction is a war.
