Whitney Houston’s unexpected death has left everyone in shock and grief. On February 11, 2012, the day before the 54th annual Grammy awards, Whitney Houston was found underwater and unconscious in her guest room at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills, California. The cause of death remains unknown though.
After an autopsy was conducted, authorities have said that there were no indications of foul play and no obvious signs of trauma. It could be weeks before the coroner’s office completes toxicology tests to establish the cause of death.
Whitney Houston was known for her music, acting and modeling. She began singing in her New Jersey church choir at age 11. She was eventually discovered by Arista Records label head Clive Davis.
In 2009, Guinness World Records named her the most-awarded female act of all time. Her long list of awards include 2 Emmy Awards, 6 Grammy Awards, 30 Billboard Music Awards and 22 American Music Awards. Houston was on of the world’s best-selling musicians, having sold over 170 million albums worldwide.
Houston has charted 7 consecutive number ones throughout her career. Included are “Saving All My Love For You”, “I Wanna Dance with Somebody (Who Loves Me)” and “So Emotional”.
Houston’s first role in a movie was as the star of a feature film called, “The Bodyguard” (1992). Other movies include, “Waiting to Exhale” (1995) and “The Preacher’s Wife” (1996).
An impromptu memorial was held during the Grammy’s, where Jennifer Hudson performed one of Houston’s iconic songs, “I Will Always Love You”.
On Monday, mourning fans left flowers, balloons and candles for Houston at the entrance of the New Hope Baptist Church in Newark.
Whitney Houston’s funeral is set to be held Saturday February 18, 2012 in the church where she first showcased her singing ability as a child. The funeral will begin at noon at the New Hope Baptists Church in Newark, New Jersey. The funeral will be publicly televised.
