Hawks breeze past Southwestern at home

NORFOLK – The Northeast Community College volleyball team got right to work on Wednesday night, downing Southwestern Community College in straight sets in ICCAC play at the Cox Activities Center in Norfolk.

 

Set scores were: 25-13, 25-13 and 25-16.

 

The Hawks (15-14, 6-1 ICCAC) were able to tame the Spartans from the beginning, tallying 10 and 11 kills, respectively as a team in the first two sets.

 

Hannah Heppner (Stanton, Neb.) led the way on the offensive end for Northeast, recording 13 kills and no errors. Josie Sanger (Crofton, Neb.) pitched in 17 digs, while MaKayla Davidson (Alliance, Neb.) had 14 digs and 12 assists.

 

The Hawks hit the road to compete in the Lincoln Land Tournament on Friday and Saturday in Springfield, Ill. Northeast will face Moraine Valley Community College at 5 p.m. and Lincoln Land Community College at 7 p.m. On Saturday, Northeast battles Waubonsee Community College at 9:30 a.m. followed by a match with No. 1 Parkland College at 11:30 a.m.
