Northeast golf takes eighth at Nebraska Intercollegiate Golf Tournament

NORFOLK, Neb. – Freshman Matthew Schaefer (Fordyce, Neb.) led the Northeast Community College golf team after recording a sixth-place finish at the Nebraska Intercollegiate Golf Tournament on Friday and Saturday at the Norfolk Country Club in Norfolk.
Schaefer shot a two-day total 149, leading the Hawks to a team total of 635 out of the 15-team tournament.
Freshman Hunter Deines (Ravenna, Neb.) came in 10 strokes behind Schaefer with a 159. Matthew Kingston (Springfield, Neb.) shot a 164, finishing in a tie for 47th-place. Mason Stubbs (Randolph, Neb.) wasn’t far behind, shooting a 166 to tie for 51st-place.
Other golfers that competed for Northeast were Grant Sell (Gothenburg, Neb.), Hunter Goehring (Elk Point, S.D.) and Dylan Lilienthal (Lincoln, Neb.).
The tournament marked the final event for the Hawks this fall. Schaefer leads Northeast with an average score of 75 in five events. Deines and Kingston are both averaging an 80, respectively, followed by Stubbs with an 82.
The spring schedule for the Northeast golf team will be announced at a later date.
