September 25, 2018
AMES, Iowa – After shooting a three-over par 75, Matthew Schaefer (Fordyce, Neb.) tied for ninth-place, leading the Northeast Community College men’s golf team to a seventh-place finish out of 11 teams on Sunday and Monday at the ICCAC Fall Preview in Ames, Iowa.
Matthew Kingston (Springfield, Neb.) came in a tie for 28th-place after carding an 84. Grant Snell (Gotheburg, Neb.) shot a 44 on both days to card an 88 and a 53rd-place finish.
Rounding out the top-5 golfers for the Hawks, were Dawson Sundsted (Spearfish, S.D.) and Hunter Deines (Ravenna, Neb.).
“It was a very difficult course to play and our youth and inexperience kind of showed up in this tournament,” head coach Kurt Pytleski said. “None of the guys have played the course before, so it was kind of ‘learn as you play golf.’ The scores were a little higher than I had hoped for, but we are a young team and it was a good learning experience for my players, playing a tough course and some very good competition.”
The Hawks hit the greens at the Midland Invitational at 10 a.m., Saturday at the Indian Hills Trails Golf Club in Beemer, Neb.
