Northeast Phi Beta Lambda members partnered with the Norfolk Morning Kiwanis group with their goal of increasing childhood literacy by handing out 500 books at the Norfolk Lion’s Day Parade.

PBL members Zaine Gallagher, Hunter Delaolla, Shanae Baker and Madison Reynoldson, braved the cool weather to hand out 500 books to kids attending the Norfolk Lion’s Day Parade on Saturday, September 22.

After meeting with the Kiwani’s group earlier this month, PBL has begun to foster a relationship between the two organizations.  The Norfolk Kiwani’s mission is in part to increase childhood literacy so they purchased 500 books and hand them out during the parade.  They reached out to our group to help walk the parade route and give the books away.

When asked why PBL reached out for this partnership, Shanae Baker (local chapter president) responded, “Community service is a large part of what our organization is about. It is important for our members to be a part of the community and develop relationships outside of campus. These relationships lead to networking with business professionals who have experience in the workplace; therefore, they can provide other opportunities for our members such as mentorships, career advice, and insights into the job market.”
