Hawks volleyball grabs two wins over non-conference foes

NORFOLK, Neb. – The Northeast Community College volleyball team  got off to a quick start on Friday afternoon, defeating Lake Region State College and Ft. Scott Community College at the Northeast Nebraska Volleyball Tournament in the Cox Activities Center in Norfolk.

In the first match, Kalli Brester (Howells, Neb.) was just one kill shy of a double-double, tallying 19 digs and nine kills to lead the Hawks. Savannah Nelson (Wakefield, Neb.) finished with a double-double, chipping in 22 assists and 12 digs in the victory.

In the final match of the day, Brester secured her first double-double of the tournament, finishing with 15 kills and 18 digs. Hannah Heppner (Stanton, Neb.) added 15 kills, while Gabriela Barbosa (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) pitched in 32 digs and four ace-serves.

“We played a couple tough matches,” Head Coach Amanda Schultze said. “Lake Region kept us on our toes defensively. We were able to pull away with a three-set win which set the tone for us going into the Fort Scott game. Fort Scott was a different type of team than Lake Region and we really started to complete as a team. We had to rest some players and the ones that took their place, really stepped up and did a nice job for us.”

The Hawks are back in action as they host Southeast Community College at 1 p.m. today in the Cox Activities Center. Live stream will be available at: https://team1sports.com/northeastcc/
