On March 14,  Northeast  Community College  held  the Spring Career Fair at the Cox Activity Center in Norfolk , Nebraska. Businesses from many different career fields set up booths in order to promote, recruit students, or just to talk about their  employment opportunities. Students could apply to be a police officer for  the City of Columbus ,  a state trooper,  a national guard member,  an employee of Wells Enterprises, a National Parks employee, or get a job at the Lindsay Corporation.

Here is what some of the employers had to say about their respective careers.

Officer Jorge Magdaleno with the Columbus Police Department said,  ” We’re here to recruit, or talk to young people about joining the police ranks.  We help out the community with any issues they have, or any people in need.”

Jesse London with the National Guard said, ”  We’re looking for potential recruits who want to join our service, maybe even need help with college money. We’re a state asset. If  a natural disaster occurs in the state we can help out with that.  We  clean up after a tornado, or other stuff like that.”

Russ Dostal with the State Troopers said, ” We do a wide variety of things, primarily law enforcement. After two years of working traffic division you can have a variety of options.”   Some jobs you can do as a state trooper are  executive protection regarding the governor, investigative services, bomb tech, or work in the canine division to name a few options.

Lloyd Shelton with Mount Rushmore  National Parks,  ”  With our job, especially for summer employees, we have housing. ”  There are also a lot of hospitality jobs. One of the benefits of working at the national parks is living and working at some of the most beautiful places on earth.

More than 90 businesses offered job opportunities, and students where already applying for jobs at some of the  booths.
