Northeast’s Phi Beta Lambda chapter and their adviser, Angie Shaffer

By: Tori Chrisman

Many former students at Northeast Community College have tackled the modern business world and other ventures with the help and experience they gained from Phi Beta Lambda (PBL) and their adviser, Angela Shaffer. PBL is a business and leadership group that equips college students with necessary skills and knowledge to assist them in their careers. PBL has been a national foundation for many years, but was kick started at Northeast ten years ago by Shaffer.

Over the last ten years, Shaffer and her PBL students have traveled throughout the country to compete against highly ranked four year schools in fiercely intense categories like marketing and social media application. Northeast Community College  has come home with several Nebraska state and national rankings. Shaffer says, “PBL is one of the most active and competitive groups on campus because we are constantly traveling and working on material for conventions.” Over the years they have competed at conventions in cities like Atlanta, Anaheim, Milwaukee, and Chicago. The travel and competition has inspired many PBL members to seek high intensity business occupations.

Angela Shaffer has been working for the college for the last twenty years. She originally started in the financial aid office, but eventually branched out into teaching a variety of business and economic classes. Her work through PBL  is extremely rewarding for both students and instructors involved.

Shaffer says that PBL students who participate, find real world career application in their academic fields through the club participation at Northeast.  Phi Beta Lambda is always looking for new members, and would love to get more Northeast students involved.
