Northeast men's soccer defeated by #6 Indian Hills, 8-0

OTTUMWA, IA – The Northeast Community College men’s soccer team was unable to overcome #6 Indian Hills Community College in a fast-paced game played here Saturday. The Hawks were shut out by the Warriors, 8-0.

Indian Hills is currently ranked sixth in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division I poll.

Northeast Coach Chad Miller said the Warriors’ speed of play caught his team off guard. Indian Hills scored their first goal ten minutes into the first half and continued to score a goal approximately every five minutes until the half ended 5-0.

“The second half was much better for us,” Miller said. “We were able to find some passing lanes and move the ball a little more. Our shots on goal were good opportunities, but they weren’t really high percentage shots. Indian Hills is a very strong team at every level of the field. They have a lot of athleticism and speed. They attack in high numbers and look to take advantage of mistakes from the other team.”

Indian Hills had 20 shots on goal to the Hawks’ six. Massimiliano Simonazzi put up 12 saves for Northeast.

The Hawks (4-7-1) will host Iowa Lakes Community College on Wednesday at Veterans Memorial Field in Norfolk. Game time is 4 p.m. and will follow the women’s game, which is set for 2 p.m.
