SACREMENTO, CA – A Northeast Community College staff member has been acknowledged for her efforts to transform learning through the innovative use of technology.
Carla Streff, director of instructional technology and training services, has been recognized by the Center for Digital Education (CDE) as one its 2017 Top 30 Technologists, Transformers and Trailblazers – 30 education and technology leaders across America who are transforming the education landscape through the use of digital tools.
The 2017 honorees were selected based on their efforts to improve education through effective implementation of technology-rich solutions; their impact on student outcomes; and their overall initiative, creativity and leadership skills.
“Our winners have shown an immense amount of passion and courage as they take on education in an era that encompasses rapid changes. They have demonstrated a unique ability to use technology as a catalyst to transform education at all levels and to have a positive impact on student success,” said Dr. Kecia Ray, executive director, CDE. “I am thrilled to recognize this outstanding group for their work, and wish them the best as they continue to push the field forward with education technology.”
Streff oversees Northeast’s award winning Service Center, a converged service desk for all help related issues for students, faculty and staff. She also leads the College’s learning technology initiatives such as instructional design, distance learning, online class standards, and video services such as web conferencing.
“Carla inspires others to dream bigger and reach higher when it comes to the student experience,” said Derek Bierman, vice president of technology services. “We are fortunate to have her as part of our team as Northeast continues to raise the bar in student success.”
In addition to community colleges, honorees represent universities, public school districts and education departments and associations across the United States.
Streff is the only Nebraska educator to receive the distinction.
In May, 2017, Viewpoint reporter Bryce Wheaton sat down with Streff to ask her about her job and how Northeast Community College stays up to date with technology in the classroom.
