INDEPENDENCE, MO – Hailey Curry scored three goals to lead the Northeast Community College women’s soccer team to a 4-3 victory over Metropolitan Community College – Blue River here today.

Hawks Coach Chad Miller described the back-and-forth game as “a battle.”

“There were some things (Blue River) did better than us, but there were also some things we did better than them. One thing we did better was finish our chances. That has been a weakness of ours, but today we were on-target.”

Thirteen minutes into the game, Curry put the Hawks on the board with a pass from Becca Folda. Blue River evened the score up four minutes later, and in the 23rd minute, Curry scored again on a pass from Valentina Haboush. Three minutes later, the Trail Blazers tied the game once again, and Curry answered with her third goal on a pass from Ellie Gess.

Score at halftime was 3-2, Northeast.

Three minutes into the second half, Gess scored on a ball from Erika Kumm. The score remained at 4-2 until the final minutes of the game when Blue River scored another goal to bring the final score to 4-3.

“Hailey really stepped up and took charge from the beginning,” Miller said. “The girls really held up against the adversity. I am happy to see they stay strong when it gets tough.”

Northeast had six shots on goal, while Blue River had eight. Alexis Wemhoff recorded five saves for the Hawks.

Northeast (6-1) will face Dakota County Technical College in Rosemount, MN, on Saturday. Game time is 4 p.m.
