Hawks basketball teams preparing for the postseason

NORFOLK – The Northeast Community College women’s and men’s basketball teams have played well this season compiling records of 26-3 and 21-9, respectively, following games on the road Saturday night at Marshalltown Community College to close out the regular season.

The Hawks’ women beat the Tigers 71-50, while the Northeast men were defeated 77-76.

Both Northeast teams begin postseason play Wednesday, March 1, in National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Region XI Tournament semi-final action.

The women will host Marshalltown Community College in the Cox Activities Center Gymnasium on the Northeast Campus in Norfolk at 5 p.m. The winner will advance to face Iowa Western Community College in Council Bluffs, IA on Saturday, March 4th. Northeast was defeated by the Reivers a week ago in Norfolk, 59-57.

The Northeast men will face Iowa Western in Council Bluffs, Wednesday evening, at 7 p.m. The Reivers beat the Hawks in Norfolk a week ago, 86-81.

Meanwhile, Marshalltown Community College will host Southeastern (IA) Community College in a play-in game tonight. The winner of that game will travel to Ottumwa, IA, on Wednesday to take on Indian Hills Community College. The winners of Wednesday’s games will face each other on Saturday, March 4, at a site to be determined.
