Northeast volleyball defeats Marshalltown in four sets

NORFOLK – The Northeast Community College women’s volleyball team downed Marshalltown Community College here Saturday. The Hawks dropped the second set, 25-23, but won the others, 25-13, 28-26 and 25-18.
“Today we started off very strong in the first set, and then we got comfortable and started to make many errors,” said Northeast Coach Amanda Schultze. “Playing a team quite a few times and continuing to beat them is very hard to do, and we showed that today.”
Courtni Kunz recorded 20 blocks for the Hawks, while Kelsey Shoemaker had 12 and Tabitha Kander, 10. Caitlin McLouth put up two solo blocks and one assist block. Courtney Labenz finished with two ace serves and 20 digs.
Monique Schafer had 12 digs, and Jordan Vogt led Northeast in assists with 45.
Northeast (15-4) travels to Creston, IA, on Wednesday to face Southwestern Community College in a 7 p.m. game.
