Hawks golf opens season, takes sixth at NIACC Fall Invitational

FORT DODGE, IA – The Northeast Community College golf team opened their fall season with a sixth place finish at the eleven team North Iowa Area Community College (NIACC) Fall Invitational held here Monday at the Fort Dodge Country Club.

Northeast finished with a team score of 320. Iowa Lakes Community College claimed team honors with 305, while Iowa Central Community College’s blue team took second with 310. Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC) and Southwestern Community College tied for third with 313 each.

LeMuel Marlow of DMACC shot a 73 for medalist honors, with Jacob Baker and Matt Bennett, both of Iowa Lakes, one shot back.

Jason Palmer shot the low score for Northeast with a 76, placing fourth.

“This was Jason’s first college tournament, and he handled the pressure and his nerves well in very windy conditions,” said Hawks Coach Kurt Pytleski. “The wind was blowing from 15 to 20 miles per hours with gusts up to 25 miles per hour. With the winds blowing and the tight tree lined fairway, any score in the 70’s was a good score.”

Elsewhere for Northeast, Cameron Bancroft and Cody Steuter each shot 78, tying for 12th. Hunter Schlueter and Jamy McCoy both fired an 81, while Brooks Coleman finished with 83, and Brook Klinetobe, 84. Devon Halliwell and Christian Stallbaun each shot a 93.

Northeast plays a dual match against Central Community College on Thursday at the Elks Country Club in Columbus. The tournament will begin at 2 p.m.
