Northeast introduces a new dance team
September 8, 2016
More than a decade has passed since Northeast Community College has had a dance team perform during halftime at a sporting event. However, that changed last spring when auditions were held for members to join the new team.
With the 2016-2017 school year underway, the dance team already has preformed at numerous halftime shows during volleyball and soccer games.
One of the co-captains, Sami Bruening, says it’s a lot easier to preform in the gym because their shoes and the wood floor work better together. When preforming during soccer games, the grass just doesn’t allow them to move as fluently.
The two captains, Morgan Wacker and Sami Bruening, have been dancing for sixteen years. They both say they’re excited about being on Northeast’s new dance team, because they love preforming in front of crowds.
Amanda Avidano, the dance coach, has been with Northeast Community College for several years. She’s always hoped a dance team would form again because of the love she has for dance. She says, “It’s a great way to build leaders within our campus. These girls have a lot of leadership skills, and they will do wonderful things on this campus.”
Next time you’re at a Northeast sporting event, be sure stay seated during halftime to see the new dance team for yourself.
