Northeast Softball Falls To Concordia JV In Final Home Games Of Season

NORFOLK – The Northeast Community College softball team hosted Concordia JV on Tuesday in their final home games of the season. The Hawks dropped both games, 11-6 in the first and 15-4 in the nightcap.
“We are starting to see our bats again,” said Hawks Coach Iris Woodhead. “It’s exciting when we put the ball in play and hit the ball hard. It’s also exciting when we have good team at-bats.”
In game one, the Hawks entered the sixth inning down by a run. Amy Rogers led off with a single, and Kianna Garza laid down a bunt to get Rogers to second base. Logan Runge then came through with a double to score Rogers and tie the game. “That’s exactly how it is supposed to look. I was very pleased to see us have quality at-bat like that again,” said Woodhead.
The seventh inning gave Northeast a chance to take the game after a two-out double from Leah Grovijohn. “Unfortunately, we weren’t able to push her across,” said Woodhead. “We had a few defensive miscues that happened in the eighth and couldn’t find a way to stop the bleeding, but the girls didn’t go out without a fight.”
In the first game, Rogers went 2-for-3 with a run and two RBIs. Ashley Gilsdorf (1-for-4) finished with a run and double, and Garza (1-for-3) had a run. Kelsie Myers batted 1-for-3 with a base on ball and double. Runge batted 2-for-4 with a double and RBI.
The second game, played to five innings, saw Rogers going 2-for-2 with two runs and a base on ball. Grovijohn finished 1-for-3 with a run, and Garza (1-for-2) ended with a run, base on ball and RBI. Kylie Givens (2-for-2) had a hit by pitch and RBI, and Maddison Oltjenbruns (1-for-2) had a double and RBI.
Northeast, now 9-40, next travel to Estherville, Iowa, to face Iowa Lakes Community College. The games, originally scheduled for today, will now be played on Thursday at 3 and 5 p.m.
