Northeast Softball Drops Two Against NIACC

MASON CITY, IA – The Northeast Community College softball team dropped two games against North Iowa Area Community College here Saturday, losing 7-3 in the first game and 4-0 in the second.
“It doesn’t show on paper, but I thought we hit the ball well,” said Hawks Coach Iris Woodhead. “There was a lot of wind, and it was blowing in (which was) a big disadvantage to us, as we hit a lot of fly balls. We crushed a few balls that would’ve easily been hit over the outfielders’ heads, but they just hung in the air.”
“We made a few errors that hurt us a little in the first game, but overall, we played some solid defense. Our outfield made some nice plays, especially with the wind.”
In the first game, Kianna Garza led the Hawks, going 1-for-2 with a run, base on ball and triple. Alyson Romey finished 1-for-3 with a run and base on ball, and Logan Runge went 1-for-3.
The second game went scoreless for Northeast. Alyson Romey finished 1-for-2, Logan Runge was 2-for-3, and Ashley Gilsdorf, 2-for-3.
Northeast is now 9-38 and 4-18 in region play. They next host Concordia University JV on Tuesday at the Ta-Ha-Zouka Park softball complex in Norfolk. Game times are 5 and 7 p.m.
