Northeast Men’s Basketball Defeated By #6 Indian Hills, 104-77

NORFOLK – Unable to recover from a slow start, the Northeast Community College men’s basketball team fell to the sixth ranked Indian Hills Community College Warriors here Wednesday, 104-77.
Indian Hills jumped to a 9-0 lead within the first three minutes of the game until Northeast’s Vance Johnson made a field goal. By halftime, the Hawks had narrowed the deficit to 47-40.
But the Warriors gained a significant lead again in the second half, outscoring Northeast 57-37.
Northeast shot for 39.3 percent (24-for-61) to Indian Hills’ 60.3 percent (35-for-58), although Northeast outperformed on free throws, making 86.7 percent (26-for-30) on the Warriors’ 80 percent (24-for-30).
Jalen Mobley led the Hawks in scoring and recorded a double double with 21 points and 10 rebounds. Milan Skundric finished with 15 points and Vance Johnson had 14, including a buzzer shot at halftime.
Indian Hills was led in scoring by Jerrelle DeBerry’s game-high 26 points.
Now 1-6 in conference games and 14-12 overall, the Hawks close regular season play with a trip to Burlington, Iowa to face Southeastern Community College on Saturday. Game time is 7 p.m.
On Monday, Northeast enters the Region XI Play-In where they will face Marshalltown Community College in Marshalltown, Iowa. Game time is 7 p.m.
