NORFOLK – Several members of Northeast Community College’s basketball, softball, soccer and volleyball teams have earned academic honors for their work in the classroom.
The thirty-two student-athletes have been named to Fall 2015 National Junior College Athletic Association Region XI Academic All-Region Teams. Northeast is a member of the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference.
To be named to All-Region First Team, the student-athlete must have earned a 3.5 and above grade point average (GPA). To be named to the All-Region Second Team, the student-athlete must have earned a 3.0-3.49 GPA.
Brandon Stevens, Spalding, of the Hawks’ men’s basketball team, earned Academic All-Region First Team honors, while Marty Hill, Minneapolis, MN, Boris Rajovic, Dahilovgraol, Montenegro, and Deon Whiteside,
Las Vegas, NV, and are on the second team.
Dan Anderson is head coach. Zach Towle and Junior Dennis serve as assistant coaches.
Three members of the Northeast women’s basketball team were named to the Academic All-Region First Team. They include Brooke Bauer, O’Neill, Cynthia George, Canary Islands, Spain, and Kara Valsek, Palmer. Second team members from the women’s basketball team include Ceara Leavai, Sydney, Australia, Hannah Riley, Richmond Hill, GA, and Maeva Kitantou, Orleans, France.
Matt Svehla is women’s head basketball coach. Tim Lubke is the assistant coach.
Members of the Northeast men’s soccer team named to the Academic All-Region First Team include Geremy Dable, Abidjan, Ivory Coast, Marcus Holmberg, Columbus and Mitchell Plance, Omaha. Second team members from the men’s soccer team include Saul Magana, Norfolk, Mark Murua, Schuyler and Clayton Patton, Nebraska City.
Chad Miller is men’s head soccer coach. Shawn Tillotson and Dr. Tom Beutler served as assistant coaches this past season.
Four members of the Northeast’s women’s softball team earned Academic All-Region First Team honors. They include Leah Grovijohn, Dodge, Hunter McCarter, Norfolk, Alyson Romey, Erie, CO, and Paige Schmidt, Osmond. Second team members include Kylie Givens, Wahoo Lindsey Kvidera, Ponca.
Members of the Northeast volleyball team named to the Academic All-Region First Team include Taryn Luedtke, Creston, Kelsie Myers, Broken Bow, Bridget Schneider, O’Neill, Nicki Stolzer, Springfield and Whitney Valasek, Palmer. Second team members include Meagan Backer, Wayne, Rachel Brandl, Stanton, Kiara Lopez, Schuyler and Mackenzie Wecker, O’Neill.
Amanda Schultze is the head coach while Sarah Oligmueller serves as the assistant while Haley Roelle is a volunteer coach.
