Northeast Women Continue Win Streak With 78-64 Win Over Southeast CC

BEATRICE – A third quarter surge paid off for the Northeast Community College women’s basketball team in their 78-64 victory over Southeast Community College here Monday.
“In the first half, we missed shots in the paint and had some nice three-point looks that did not go down,” said Hawks coach Matt Svehla. “We came out in the third quarter and put some points on the board that gave us a 22-point lead. We had some foul concerns to deal with, but we managed that pretty well.”
The Hawks shot 88 percent (21-for-24) from the free throw line and finished 46 percent (26-for-56) on field goals.
Four Northeast players scored in double digits. Brooke Bauer led with 21 points and Maeva Kitantou had 16. Raveen Murray and Sydney Koel finished with 14 and 11 points, respectively.
Southeast was led in scoring by Jayla Brown with a game-high 22 points.
Now 23-4, the Hawks have won their last five games. They return home on Tuesday to face Concordia University JV at the Cox Activities Center on the Northeast campus. Game time is 6 p.m.
