Hawks Defeated By Marshalltown CC In 77-74 loss

NORFOLK – A missed shot by Jalen Mobley resulted in a 77-74 loss for the Northeast Community College’s men’s basketball team in a conference match-up against Marshalltown Community College here Saturday.
The Hawks started the game slow, falling behind 13 points before a strong run brought them to a 34-30 deficit by halftime.
A back-and-forth second half came down to the final seconds. With the score 77-72, Jalen Mobley was fouled with a half-second remaining in the game, and he sunk all three free throws. The Hawks then took a timeout and forced a five-second violation, but Mobley’s shot in the final second came up short.
“Turnovers and missed free throws killed us today,” said Hawks Coach Dan Anderson. “You can’t win games that way.”
Northeast was led in scoring by Marty Hill with 14 points and Milan Skundric with 13. Pierre Conwell led rebounds with 10, and assists were led by Kevin Metoyer’s six.
Amir Maddred and Nick Cross led Marshalltown in points with 17 and 16, respectively.
The Hawks travel to Southeast Community College for a 7:30 p.m. game Monday. Northeast’s next home game will be Wednesday when they host Indian Hills Community College at the Cox Activities Center on the Northeast campus. Tip-off is 7 p.m.
