Hawks Fall To Indian Hills 88-59

OTTUMMWA, IA – The Northeast Community College men’s basketball team suffered a conference road loss to Indian Hills Community College Saturday here, 88-59.
The Hawks and Warriors traded baskets before two unanswered baskets by the Jerrelle DeBerry put the Warriors up by eight with 10 minutes to go in the first half. The Hawks continued to battle, but could not break into Indian Hills’ lead. The Hawks were down at halftime by eleven, 37-28.
The second half started with Kevin Metoyer finding Earvin Perroni for a three point shot while Vance Johnson came up with a rebound to start a Hawks fast break that lead to lay up by Peirre Conwell. The Warriors called timeout to stop the run, which seemed to take the fire out of the Hawks.
Anderson said after the game, Dan Anderson, Hawks coach, said, “We had chances to cut the lead, but we couldn’t come up with rebounds or stops. However, the score does not show how we played. We kept pushing to cut their lead down all the way to the end, but we just couldn’t come up with stops on defense.”
Northeast travels to Council Bluffs, IA, on Wednesday to face conference rival #10 Iowa Western at
7 p.m. The Hawks won its last meeting against the then #4 Reivers 93-83.
