Here’s a look at some of the actors in “Pride and Prejudice and Zombies”:

BELLA HEATHCOTE

Plays: Jane Bennet

You know her from: “Dark Shadows,” Neighbours,” “In Time”

On the film action: What I love about this is that they have taken all these things that are in the original Jane Austen novel, like female empowerment and forward-thinking women, and transplanted it into this physical world where there can be a physical expression of all that. We are all fighting and we are all saving the boys. I love it. The film is completely a feminist film.

I did about three months of kung fu in L.A. before I went over. Then I did about a month with the girls of all the more specific skills. I really got into it. I get anxious before a job, so I was going to channel that into something positive.

MATT SMITH

Plays: Mr. Collins

You know him from: “Doctor Who,” “In Bruges,” “Secret Diary of a Call Girl”

On selecting very different roles from “Doctor Who”: That role always stays with you somewhere. I think it takes time and hopefully parts like this are different.

It’s strange being an actor. You never know what is around the corner. I try to find things that are different to me. Actually, every character I’ve played has been like an alien to me. Pastor Collins is a bit like the alien of the piece because he’s the outsider. He’s completely misunderstood in his own time.

JACK HUSTON

Plays: Mr. Wickham

You know him from: “The Longest Ride,” “American Hustle,” “Boardwalk Empire”

On finding role like “Zombies” after “Boardwalk Empire”: The nice thing is that no one knows that is me. That’s one of the nicest things. You can spend time with people and go out for parts.

You do a show for a long time and you fall madly in love with the character because it is such fun to play. Then you are constantly looking for things after it that are challenging. When it’s over you are happy it’s over and then you miss it.

DOUGLAS BOOTH

Pays: Mr. Bingley

You know him from: “Jupiter Ascending,” “Noah,” “Romeo & Juliet”

What he liked about this version of “Pride and Prejudice”: What it does for me is that is just extenuates the original themes of the book. I have seen zombie movies where someone gets chased from A to B or try to vaccinate things. We’ve seen that.

This isn’t about that. It’s about how will that story that we know so well and love survive and change with this extraordinary situation of there being a zombie plague. That makes it quirky.
