Northeast Women Down Marshalltown 91-33
January 26, 2016
MARSHALLTOWN, IA – Clean play and the bench gave the Northeast women’s basketball team a 91-33 victory over the Marshalltown Community College Tigers here Saturday.
“Even though the game was well in hand, I liked how we did things,” said Northeast Coach Matt Svehla.
“We shot the ball well, and we played clean basketball. Our starters did not play very much; they were pretty sharp, and our bench did a good job of continuing that. Kara Valasek was active off the bench and nearly had a double double.”
Valasek’s performance included 15 points and nine total rebounds. Raveen Murray finished with 15 points and six rebounds. Sydney Koel and Brooke Bauer scored 11 points each.
The game also saw the return of freshman guard Bianca McDonald, who had not played since early December due to a stress fracture. “We did not play her much, but she is a big part of our team, and it is great to have her back,” said Svehla.
Scoring for the Marshalltown Tigers was led by JeAnn Hiraldo with 17 points.
The Hawks have improved to 16-3. They next host Doane College on Thursday at 6 p.m. and Hastings College on Friday at 5 p.m. Both games will be played in the Cox Activities Center on the Northeast campus in Norfolk.
