Hawks Basketball Teams Defeat Morningside

NORFOLK – The Northeast Community College men’s and women’s basketball teams were victorious on the hardwood here Tuesday night with wins over the Morningside College JV.
In the men’s contest, Marty Hill led five players in double figures in the Hawks 97-72 win. He scored 19 points and had three rebounds, two blocks and one assist. Peirre Conwell finished with 14 points, five rebounds, six steals, four assists and two blocks. Kevin Metoyer had 12 points, eleven assists, five rebounds and four steals; Vance Johnson scored eleven points and had seven rebounds and three blocks; and Earvin Perroni finished with ten points, four rebounds and one blocked shot.
Milan Skundric had eight points, Deon Whiteside and Mathew Wingett had seven points each, Brandon Stevens, three and Jalen Mobley, Trevon Moody and Boris Rajovic had two points each.
In the women’s game, Northeast won easily, 92-49.
Matt Svehla, Hawk’s coach said he was pleased with his team’s performance.
“I really liked our start in this game. We played with good energy and did a lot of good things on both ends of the court. It was good to get control of the game early and to get our bench players some good minutes.”
Brooke Bauer led five Hawk’s players in double figures with 20 points. Francesca Minali had 12 points and had nine rebounds; Sydney Koel finished with eleven points and five rebounds; and Maeva Kitantou and Hannah Riley had ten points each.
Pip Armitage and Ceara Leavai had eight points each, Raveen Murray scored seven points, Bianca McDonald had four and Kara Valasek had two.
Both teams will be in action this week. The men’s team (3-2) travels to Devils Lake, ND, to participate in the Lake Region Classic this Friday and Saturday. The women’s team (6-0) travels to Estherville, IA, to play Iowa Lakes Community College on Friday.
