Iowa Western Defeats Hawks In Four Sets

NORFOLK – The Northeast Community College women’s volleyball team started strong in winning the first set against Iowa Western Community College here Tuesday, but struggled late and fell to the Reivers in four sets, 20-25, 25-23, 25-19 and 25-16.
“The girls played with a lot of confidence in the first two sets, said Amanda Schultze, Northeast coach. “We backed off in the third and fourth sets and let Iowa Western control the tempo. Defensively, we blocked well and made some great digs. Meagan Backer had a game high with 30 digs and Taryn Luedtke had a nice game offensively with 12 kills.
Courtni Kunz finished with ten kills and one solo block Kelsey Shoemaker recorded one solo block and an ace serve, and Layne Mitchell finished with one solo and two assist blocks. Bridget Schneider had a strong night with 17 digs and 41 assists and Kelsie Myers had one ace serve.
Northeast will host its last Iowa Community College Athletic Conference game tonight as it hosts Southeast Community College in the Cox Activity center at 6 p.m. It is Black Out Night and everyone is encouraged to wear black as the Hawks honor its sophomore players.
