October 22, 2015
CEDAR RAPIDS, IA – Kirkwood Community College defeated the Northeast Community College volleyball team in straight sets here Wednesday night. The scores were 25-20, 25-18 and 25-16.
Amanda Schultze, Hawks coach, said her team struggled all night against the Eagles.
“It was a tough night playing against Kirkwood on their home floor. Kelsey Shoemaker did a nice job for us at the net offensively and Meagan Backer had another good match defensively with 22 digs. Kirkwood had a sophomore outside that we couldn’t stop, she did a nice job mixing it up and keeping us on our toes.”
Shoemaker finished with nine kills. Layne Mitchell and Tabby Kander had three assist blocks each, Rachel Brandl recorded two ace serves and Bridget Schneider finished with 24 assists.
The Hawks continue their two-day road trip tonight with a match against Indian Hills Community College in Ottumwa, IA. Game time is 7 p.m.
