Marshalltown Defeats Northeast In Men’s Soccer, 1-0

MARSHALLTOWN, IA – The Northeast Community College men’s soccer team fell to #10 Marshalltown Community College here Saturday, 1-0.

The Tigers dominated possession during the first half of the contest while the Hawks struggled to put together a group of passes, which forced the visitors to play defense during the half.

Chad Miller, Hawks coach, credits the Marshalltown’s high pressure offense. “We weren’t allowed much time with the ball when we did have our chances.” However, Miller was pleased with his team’s performance in the second half in which the Hawks put together a better passing game.

“That helped take the pressure off of defense. With seven minutes left in the game we had a great opportunity to make it even, but the ball just went wide of the post. A short time later, we had another good chance to score, but their goalie as able to get there for the save.”

Miller credits his team’s defensive play the entire game in keeping them in the contest. “Marshalltown is one of the best teams in the nation; I’m proud of how the boys stayed in the game and kept after it.”

Marshalltown outshot Northeast 16-3 and led 8-1 on shots on goals. Northeast’s Fernando Lopez had six saves.

Northeast will host Scott Community College on Tuesday at Veterans Memorial Park in Norfolk at 2 p.m.
