Having trouble with your schedule or trying to understand your different student accounts such as My Northeast or Degree Works at Northeast Community College? If you ever need assistance in navigating through any general education or program requirements, finding transfer guides, or any other campus resources, there are Peer Advisors who can help!

Coordinator, Lisa Reifenrath says there are twelve Peer Advisors, eight new and four who are from last year’s group. After a Peer Advisor graduates, new Peer Advisors will be hired to replace them. The applications were handed out and Lisa, along with a veteran Peer Advisor held interviews in the beginning of September.

Second year Peer Advisor, Autumn Baumann says that it has been a great opportunity for her to broaden her horizons. “My favorite part of the job is meeting everybody. Last year, we all became really close and I knew that I could count on them for anything, and I’m hoping it’ll be the same for this year!”, she said.

Applicants must be full-time students who posses good communication skills, a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0 or higher, and they must have a letter of recommendation from a faculty or staff member.

Baumann wants to get the word out that the Peer Advisors are highly trained and they’re ready to assist their fellow students. Throughout the year, they attend multiple informative sessions so that they can help students have a successful college experience.

Any of the twelve Peer Advisors can be found at the front desk of the Advising and Academic Support Center (College Welcome Center room number 1284) from 8-5 p.m. on Monday-Friday. Reifenrath says, “We are hoping to provide hours Monday-Thursday from 3-5 p.m. in the Ag Allied Health Building, and also Sunday, Monday and Wednesday from 6-8 p.m. in the Residence Halls.”
