RALEIGH, N.C. — A North Carolina jury ruled Monday that Starbucks was not negligent in a case in which a Raleigh police officer was severely burned when hot coffee spilled in his lap.
Lt. Matt Kohr had sought damages of up to $750,000 from the coffee company, in a case that has been watched worldwide.
But the jury decided 10-2 that Starbucks owed nothing to Kohr.
“We’re disappointed,” said Daniel Johnson, Kohr’s attorney. “We appreciate the jury’s time and attention.”
Kohr said: “We thank everyone for their support. We look forward to putting this behind us and moving forward.”
Starbucks attorneys declined to comment.
