Hawks takes third at Midland Invitational

VALLEY – The Northeast Community College golf team tied for third in the Midland University Spring Invitational at the Pines Country Club here Wednesday. The Hawks and Northwestern College shot 307. Iowa Western Community College claimed team honors with 298 while Midland’s A team was second with a 301 in the eleven team field.

Alister Balcombe of Iowa Western shot a two-under 70 for medalist honors with Parker Grass of Midland, two shots back. Preston Peters of Northeast was one four players who tied for third with a one-over 73. The Hawk’s Conner Watson finished in the top ten and tied for eighth with a 75.

Elsewhere for Northeast, Michael Brockhaus had a 79, Justin Bruntz fired an 80, Michael Bergquist shot an 81, Dalton Lammers had an 82 and Lucas Bradfield shot and 83.

Brad Bosh, Hawks coach, said he was proud of how his players played on Wednesday. “It was 45 degrees and the wind was blowing 25 miles an hour plus. If we can shoot like this in conditions like these, I will be excited to see how we do once the weather cooperates.  Practices have been extremely competitive this spring and they are making everyone better because of it!”

Next week, the Hawks head to the Southeast Community College Invitational followed by the Iowa Central Community College Invitational. “I am looking forward to strong finishes at both of these tournaments,” Bosh said.
