NORFOLK – The Northeast Community College women’s basketball team picked up its 16th win of the season with an 83-59 win here Saturday over the Hastings College JV.

While his team picked up win, Hawks Coach Matt Svehla said they were not very sharp in the contest.

“We only had ten turnovers, but we didn’t finish very well and our defense was not very good on many occasions. We definitely have a lot of areas where we can get better and hopefully we will be sharper during our next game. If we play like we did tonight, Marshalltown (Northeast’s next opponent) will take advantage.”

Svehla said one positive on the night was that the entire bench played and every player scored. However, Ena Viso did not play due to some leg soreness.

Brooke Bauer led Northeast with 18 points and eight rebounds. Megan Trinder had 12 points, 12 assists and three steals and Sydney Koel finished with ten points.

Northeast will host Marshalltown Community College on Wednesday in the Cox Activities Center on the Northeast campus in Norfolk. Tip-off is set for 5 p.m.
