On Thursday, April 3rd, the Norfolk Arts Center opens their latest exhibit for the public to attend. Two shows will be featured from April 3-May 3rd. A reception will take place on Saturday, April 5th from 4-6p.m. to showcase the unique and talented work from the Juried Exhibition and Wayne State College faculty exhibit. The reception is free and open to the public.
This is the 7th annual juried exhibition and this year will feature 20 area artists in a portion of the gallery. This exhibit features a variety of types of works, including photography, oil & acrylic paintings, sculptures, and numerous more. The reception on April 5th will include a critique by the juror and the prizes will be announced. All artists are encouraged to attend. The juror for the exhibition is Steve Elliot. His large-scale sculptures and mixed media works have been included in more than 60 exhibitions and collaborations in 23 states nationwide. Elliot is currently the Arts & Humanity Interim Dean at Wayne State College.
For the Wayne State College faculty show, five faculty will be featured in the gallery and three adjunct faculty will be featured in the atrium.
In a portion of the gallery, Wayne State College faculty Marlene Mueller, Steve Elliot, Pearl Hansen, Joshua Piersanti and Wayne Anderson will have work on display. Mueller, Professor of Art in the Department of Art & Design at Wayne State College currently teaches painting and drawing. She is a retired member of the Wayne Volunteer Fire Department and her recent work in drawing reflects an interest in fire phenomena. Elliot was born in Quantico, Virginia. After serving a four-year active duty tour in the Marine Corps and extensive travel experiences overseas, he received his B.F.A. from the University of Kansas and his M.F.A. from the University of Maryland. Hansen is the Chair of the Art and Design Department at WSC and selected small mixed media pieces, tempera and pastel, for this exhibit. Piersanti teaches graphic, web, and interaction design at Wayne State College. He is a native of Pinole, California, but has lived in the Midwest for a decade. Anderson is a native of South Dakota and received his BFA from the University of South Dakota and his MFA from Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville. Along with the show in the gallery, work by WSC adjunct faculty Leroy von Glan, Tom Dahlseid and Chris Holton will be featured in the Norfolk Arts Center atrium.
