NORFOLK – The Northeast Community College women’s basketball team ended the regular season on a winning note with a 97-61 victory over the Concordia University JV here Friday.
Hawks Coach Matt Svehla was pleased with his team’s performance. “This was our last regular season game and we really wanted to play well. I thought that we did a good job of taking care of the basketball and we ran the floor very well. When we defend and run the floor, good things happen for us.”
Svehla said other than giving up ten, three point shots and some offensive rebounds; there wasn’t a lot to complain about. “We shot our free throws well (21- 23) and we really passed the basketball. 28 assists on 36 field goals is really good unselfish execution.”
Yasmin Miller led Northeast with 22 points. Elsewhere, Alison Klostergaard had 16 points, Debinique Knowles had 15, Emily Gamble with 10, Jamea Coleman, 9, Megan Trinder and Amelia Allington each had 8, Ena Viso, 5, and Annie Szczepaniak contributed 4.
Northeast is now 26-3 and will take on Iowa Western Community College in Council Bluffs, IA, on Saturday, March 1, in the Region XI Championship game. Tip-off is set for 5 p.m.
