NORFOLK – Jordan Stevens and Warren Jones of Southeastern (IA) Community College combined for 61 points as the #19 Blackhawks defeated Northeast Community College here Saturday, 90-73. The loss drops the Hawks to 14-15 on the season.
In a game that saw multiple runs, Northeast trailed Southeastern 16-15 after the first media timeout. The Blackhawks went on a 29-7 run to end the half, which brought the score to 45-22 at intermission. Southeastern scored the first eight points of the second half, but the Hawks responded. Down 27 points, Northeast made a furious comeback and cut the lead to 59-67 with just under 10 minutes to go. While Lyle Hexom missed a three-pointer to cut the lead to five, the Hawks could never get any closer.
Leading the way for Northeast was Jabbar Washington with 26 points. He also had six assists. Northeast outrebounded Southeastern 37-36.
Northeast will play its final regular season game this upcoming Wednesday in the Cox Activities Center as it will host Central Community College-Columbus in a women’s-men’s double-header. Tip-off for the women’s game is 6 p.m. followed by the men’s game at 8.
