The main complaint that college students have is how much text books cost and then when they sell them back they get less than half of what they paid for them, if they can sell them back at all. Goedeker’s, a St. Louis based online retailer of appliances and furniture, is having a national scholarship essay contest to help college students pay for one of the biggest costs of college, textbooks.
To apply for this scholarship write an essay about why going to college and studying you major is important to you. Goedeker’s also wants some insight into your personal background, your philosophy about learning, why you chose your major in particular, and any other information you feel is relevant.
The submission requirements for the scholarship are an essay with at least 300 words, proof of a GPA higher than 3.0, contact information (name, mailing address, preferred way of contact), and proof that you are enrolled in college for the spring semester of 2014. The company would also like a few sentences about yourself, separate from your essay, and a recent picture of yourself, which will be used to publicize the winners on Goedeker’s Home Life Blog.
Any student that is enrolled in college is eligible to participate. This includes any grade level, freshman to senior, or undergrad and graduate. Even if you are a transfer student, non-traditional student, or taking classes online, you can enter. Any major or field of study is acceptable.
The deadline to enter is July 31, 2014 at 12 am CDT. The honorable mentions, which will be rewarded $100, will be given on August 11 and August 12, 2014. The grand prize, a reward of $500, will be awarded on August 13, 2014. The announcements will be made on the Goedecker’s Home Life Blog, here.

Good luck to all who enter.
