NORFOLK – The five member ensemble “A Touch of Brass” will be performing concerts over the next few months across Northeast Nebraska and Southeast South Dakota. The concert at Northeast Community College will be held Sunday, January 26th at 2 p.m. in the Cox Activities Center Theatre. Other dates on the group’s tour include Sunday, February 9th at 2 p.m. in the Little Red Hen Theatre in Wakefield; Sunday, February 21st at 12 p.m. at the National Music Museum on the campus of the University of South Dakota (USD) in Vermillion, SD,; and Sunday, March 16th at 2 p.m. in Ley Theatre at Wayne State College (WSC).
The theme of the group’s concert tour is “American Folksongs.” The program will include the following selections: “Buckaroo Holiday,” from Aaron Copeland’s Rodeo, “Variations on America,” by Charles Ives, “The Cowboys,” by John Williams, “Suite of Old American Dances,” by Robert Russell Bennett, and a “Medley” of Stephen Foster tunes.
“A Touch of Brass” members include; Dr. Randall Neuharth (trombone), instrumental music instructor and director of instrumental activities at Northeast Community College; Josh Calkin (tuba), WSC faculty member; Gary Reeves (horn), USD faculty member; Dave Bohnert (trumpet), director of bands at WSC; and founding member Keith Krueger (trumpet), a former public school music instructor now engaged in farming.
The concerts are open to the public.
